Hazem career spans 20+ years in corporate sustainability, impact investing, public policy, sustainable economic development, organizational transformation and leadership development. His international development experience cuts across areas like policy and regulatory reforms, investment development and promotion, sustainable value chains, clusters of innovation, entrepreneurship development, and workforce development. Hazem worked extensively on many sectors including clean energy and climate change, education, IT, manufacturing, multimodal transport and logistics, tourism, financial services, and agribusiness. He has deep experience in stakeholder engagement/mobilization through working with financial institutions, investment funds, policymakers, governments, entrepreneurs, donors, nonprofits, and corporate executives from 15+ countries globally.

Hazem was the Regional Manager for MENA Investment and Competitiveness Program at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) – the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group - where he advised MENA governments and the private sector in the region on strategies and programs for investment and economic development. He was the Senior Advisor to Chairmen of Suez Canal Economic Zone on Strategy and Investment Development (a six-port, mega economic zone that is almost half the size of Singapore), Advisor to Chairman of Egypt Investment Authority on Strategy and Investment Development, and Advisor to Chairman of Egypt Financial Services Authority on Strategy and Financial Markets Development. During the time he spent at Egypt Investment Authority, foreign investment inflows to Egypt increased from $4bn to $11bn in three years following the implementation of an organizational transformation program that he helped design and implement.

Prior, Hazem was an Foreign Investment and SMEs Specialist at Egypt - EU Industrial Modernization Center, a Senior Manager with PWC Consulting, a Strategy Consultant with McKinsey, a Management Consultant with Andersen Consulting, and an Investment Banker with Flemings Investment Bank in London and Egypt.  In addition, Hazem advised Plug and Play Technology Center - a Silicon Valley Tech Incubator - on their Strategy and Incubation program for Egypt, and advised the government on Egypt ICT Entrepreneurship Strategy. He mentors Egyptian entrepreneurs as part Endeavor - the prominent global entrepreneurship development organization.

Hazem is a Doctoral Candidate in Policy, Planning, and Development at University of Southern California (USC) Price School of Public Policy where he focuses his research on social impact business models, corporate sustainability, and impact investing. Hazem graduated as a Mason Fellow in Public Policy and Management from Harvard Kennedy School of Government where he received his Master of Public Administration (MPA), and as a Sloan Fellow in Innovation and Global Leadership from MIT Sloan School of Management where he received his Master of Business Administration (MBA). He also received MBA in International Banking & Finance from Birmingham Business School in the UK, a Graduate Certificate in Management, Leadership, and Decision Science from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Graduate Diploma in Banking Operations from Alexandria University in Egypt.

Hazem is a recipient of several fellowships including Harvard Fellowship (USA), Fulbright Fellowship (USA), Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening Fellowship (UK), and Sawiris Foundation Fellowship (Egypt). Hazem is a Harvard Faculty Affiliate teaching a Harvard Business school course developed by Professor Michael Porter on "Competitiveness, Clusters, and Corporate Shared Value Strategies" to Master degree students.
